Childhood memories last long. Long enough to re-create them. When I was 6, my father took me to this little village near Kolkata. This was my first visit to a real unschool. #ShantiNiketan. Literally, ‘abode of peace.’ It truly was a moment to understand a place, where #Gurudev studied. India’ first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, must have written the fiery poem #Gitanjali, under one of the trees at this place.
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments;
By narrow domestic walls;
As I recollect these memories, I knew instinctively that Golden Sparrow Hub Schooling #Education was an imprint of this visit. I wish to see a borderless education, where #students are not fragmented by the narrow domestic borders of states and nations, where learning is free. I dream of the #Golden vision, democratize #schooling. As I congratulate my fellow Indian, as Santi Niketan has been declared as a UNESCO World #Heritage List, I see the whole circle.
It is no surprise then, that the first batch of my Golden Sparrow students learned the epic poem for their class tenth #NIOS Open boards, and that the class was named #TAGORE.
Where the mind is led forward by thee;
Into ever-widening thought and action;
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
